How the Product Comparison Calculator Works
Choosing between products is rarely just about the sticker price. A $1,200 laptop that lasts 6 years costs $0.55/day, while a $800 laptop that lasts 3 years costs $0.73/day. The “cheaper” option is actually 33% more expensive to own.
This calculator breaks down the true cost of ownership across daily, monthly, and yearly periods — then highlights the winner so you can make a confident decision.
What Is the Value Score?
Price isn't everything — quality matters too. Our Value Score combines cost efficiency with product quality by dividing the rating by the daily cost:
Value Score = Rating ÷ Daily Cost
A higher Value Score means you get more quality per dollar spent
For example, a product rated 4.5 stars that costs $0.50/day has a Value Score of 9.0. A 3.5-star product costing $0.30/day scores 11.7— it's actually a better value despite the lower rating.
When to Use This Calculator
- Comparing similar products — see which robot vacuum, laptop, or headphone gives you the most value over time
- Premium vs. budget decisions — sometimes paying more upfront saves money in the long run
- Factoring in quality — use the Value Score to see if paying for better reviews is worth the extra cost
- Presenting options to others — show family or colleagues a clear, visual breakdown
The Math Behind It
Daily Cost = Purchase Price ÷ (Years × 365)
Monthly Cost = Daily Cost × 30.44
Yearly Cost = Purchase Price ÷ Years
Value Score = Rating ÷ Daily Cost
